VHP has, since its inception, worked hard to bring quality theatre productions to audiences and to be a good community citizen by helping out other community organisations where we can by offering our talents gratis to assist them with their fundraising/community projects. Over the years, we have put in a lot of hours delivering both of these goals and had a lot of fun doing it. Below are some of our endeavours from our Community Involvement Programme.
August – Divarama was held at the Casino Civic Hall in support of women in the music industry and to fundraise for the One Voice Richmond Valley Community Choir. It was a huge success with nearly 200 people attending and over $2,000 raised!
November – DIRT students from both Kyogle and Casino classes performed a number of songs from Broadway musicals with the “help” of some of the VHP adult members.
April – National Youth Week Event in Kyogle – DIRT students from both Kyogle and Casino classes performed readings from their upcoming annual production – a scene from The Shadow Boy by John Summons and Pyramus & Thisbe from A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare.
March/April – Gallipoli 1915-Over Here Over There- VHP provided sound and lighting equipment and crew for this original play with music. VHP stalwart, Paul Worsnop, and DIRT student also performed in the production at both Casino and Kyogle venues.
September – Kyogle & District Arts Council Musicale – DIRT students performed a musical numbers (I Won’t Grow Up from Peter Pan)
October – Kyogle Community Disaster Forum – DIRT kids performed an original one act play “Resilience”
November – Kyogle Court Aged Care Hostel -VHP performed two short one act plays
December – DIRT students from Kyogle performed It’s The Hard Knock Life (Annie) and DIRT students from the Casino class performed The Telephone Hour (Bye Bye Birdie) at the Drug & Alcohol Community Forum
March – Kyogle Seniors’ Concert – VHP members performed a short one act play and members sang a number of songs
July – Kyogle Court Aged Care Hostel – VHP members performed for the residents’ Big Night In
October – Care Connections Carers’ Week Concert – VHP members performed performed a short one act play
December – Kyogle Tidy Towns’ Farmers’ Markets – VHP choir members performed carols at the markets on 20 December.
March – Seniors’ Concert – VHP members performed two skits and a number of songs
March – VHP members and DIRT kids provided the Easter Bunny and his helpers for the Kyogle Bazaar
June – Kyogle Community Cinema Fundraiser – VHP members presented a murder mystery game with a Hollywood setting
December – Kyogle Lions Christmas Carols by Candlelight – VHP members sang a number of carols
March – Seniors’ Concert – VHP members performed a one act play
December – United Churches Christmas Pageant – VHP members and DIRT kids perform a modern take on the Nativity.
December – VHP members sing Christmas carols at the Farmers’ Markets on Christmas Eve Day.
